MeLiS Mécanismes en sciences intégratives du vivant

Educational activities hosted at MeLiS

MeLiS regularly opens its doors to student groups in training, giving them the opportunity to discover laboratory research.

  • Model Organisms Practicum

Each year, MeLiS hosts students from the International Master in Life Sciences for short research projects allowing them to explore the laboratory’s model organisms. The students present their results during a poster session held as part of our weekly “MeLiS Café.”

  • Virtual Reality Workshops in Human Embryology

These workshops, run within Alain Chédotal’s team, offer medical students from years 1 to 6 a unique opportunity to explore human embryology through virtual reality and to contribute to the anatomical annotation of novel images of the developing brain and other organs.
  • Advanced Technical Workshops

MeLiS hosts students from the Master’s course “Advanced Bio-imaging” for demonstrations in light-sheet microscopy (Chédotal team) and expansion microscopy (Durand team). Workshops on cloning techniques are also organized for students of the International Master’s in Life Sciences within the Le Grand–Marcelle team.
  • Biology Olympiad 2025

MeLiS welcomed more than 30 high-school students from seven schools in the Lyon academy for the 2025 Biology Olympiad. The theme focused on “life in motion.” Four experimental workshops were offered to introduce participants to the research carried out at MeLiS.

  • Laboratory Visits

MeLiS regularly welcomes undergraduate students from Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 and ENS Lyon for laboratory visits, organized by their instructors in the L2 course “Developmental Biology” and the L3 course “Scientific Communication and Internship.”
